About the Film

Set in the underbelly of rural Pakistan, *The Rooster and the Boy* follows 14-year-old Asif, a servant caught in the brutal world of underground rooster fighting. When his beloved rooster is marked for slaughter, Asif defies the system and escapes with the bird.

Director’s Note

When I started reading the script for the first time, I genuinely felt like I was reading a Mini Maulajat. Trust me, if roosters had their own Maulajat, this would be it.

It’s not huge in terms of scale, yet it’s big at heart.

It’s raw. It’s emotional. It carries intensity, a clash of power and revenge. You will love some characters, you will hate some characters, but I’m pretty sure that by the time you’re done watching it, you’ll walk out with goosebumps and a strange sense of satisfaction. A feeling that stays with you long after the film ends.
